Steve Owusu, popularly known as The Shishiishi Man, has advised young and upcoming gospel artistes not to entirely rely on the opinions of industry gatekeepers. Instead, he urged them to engage more, build personal networks, and seek broader consultations before making critical career decisions.
Speaking as a guest on the Christian Entertainment Review Show on ATV last night, hosted by Nii Noi, Steve Owusu addressed the ongoing copyright conversation surrounding Kofi Owusu Peprah and Nigerian gospel artiste Ada Ehi.
Commenting on the issue, The Shishiishi Man expressed disappointment in the way the situation was handled by the industry intermediary Kofi Owusu Peprah consulted for help in reaching out to Ada Ehi’s management.
According to him, “If that industry person had genuinely spoken to Ada Ehi’s management and secured proper permission, that same person would have been the first to defend Kofi Owusu Peprah publicly when the matter escalated—especially when Ada Ehi’s team later came back requesting a split after the song gained massive traction in Ghana and beyond.”
Steve Owusu stressed that this situation highlights why upcoming artistes must not put their full trust in the words of one individual, no matter their position or influence in the industry. He advised artistes to double-check, document agreements properly, and seek legal advice where necessary.
Beyond his media commentary, Steve Owusu (The Shishiishi Man) is the CEO of OS TV GH, an award-winning gospel entertainment blog. He is also a renowned artiste manager, the host of Christians Connect on EnergyRadio 91.1 FM, and a consistent promoter of gospel music across multiple media platforms.
