Understanding Media Types & How to Use Them to Grow Your Gospel Music

Dear Gospel Artist,

As we come to the end of the year, I want to share a simple but powerful understanding that can help you grow your music ministry in the coming year. I wish you get some understanding on the types of media in marketing and how to use them to your advantage.

  1. Owned Media
This is media you control directly.
Examples include your social media pages, YouTube channel, music platforms, website, and email list. Remember your Personal blogger is part of your own media and you have control over his/her posts for you.
👉🏿Use this to consistently share your music, testimonies, upcoming events, and your message.
  2. Paid Media
This is media you pay for to reach more people.
Examples include Facebook ads, Instagram ads, YouTube promotions, bloggers, radio or TV adverts.
👉🏿Use this to push new songs, concerts, or major announcements to a wider audience beyond your followers.
  3. Earned Media
This is publicity you don’t pay for directly.
Examples include shares from fans, recommendations, media interviews, reviews from Pundits on TV&Radio Shows, and word-of-mouth.
This builds trust and credibility. Focus on quality content and genuine engagement so people talk about your music.
Don’t fight Pundits when your name is mention on shows just try and build a proper relationship and reputation so it helps you positively at every mentioning.

The best growth comes when you combine all three wisely. Let your owned media tell your story, your paid media expand your reach, and your earned media build trust for the long term.

Everything starts with uour owned media and if you don’t control it, it will greatly affect you so go back and read on owned media.

As gospel artists, our mission is impact, and understanding media helps us spread the message more effectively.

Wishing you greater reach and deeper impact in the year ahead.
Share it if you have learnt something new.

Warm regards,
Steve Owusu Shishiishi Man
